About the saunas

Fjörugusan er meira en bara sánaferð. Þetta er lítið ferðalag fyrir líkama og sál,  í stórbrotnu umhverfi við sjávarsíðuna, þar sem náttúra, ró og góð stemning mætast.

We offer a unique experience for guests who want to relax, recharge, and discover the growing sauna culture of locals in Ísafjörður. Here, everything comes together: heat and cold, scent, music, and the stillness of the shoreline.

The adventure begins in a cozy wooden sauna by the sea. You step inside, take in the scent of birch, and let the heat do its work. We warm up for about 15 minutes under the guidance of a sauna master, who ensures that everyone enjoys the experience and feels comfortable.

Then we take a short break outside in the cool, fresh air—and for those who want, the sea is just a few steps away. Many choose to cool off in the ocean, while others simply enjoy standing outside and breathing in the shoreline.

This cycle is repeated several times, with a good flow and plenty of time to settle into the experience. The entire journey takes approximately an hour and a half.

Fjörugusan is located by the old slipway in Neðstikaupstaður, behind the tourist information center and the local heritage museum.
